Amid the political tension between the United States and Ukraine after an unprecedented verbal spat between US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyynnnn1998, Trump today said that the US is considering imposing banking sanctions on Russia until a peace deal is cracked with Ukraine.

"Based on the fact that Russia is absolutely 'pounding' Ukraine on the battlefield right now, I am strongly considering large scale Banking Sanctions, Sanctions, and Tariffs on Russia until a Cease Fire and FINAL SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT ON PEACE IS REACHED. Trump's confirmation came days after reports claimed that the US was planning to impose potential sanctions on Russia.Reuters on March 4 reported that the White House had asked the State and Treasury departments to draft a list of sanctions that could be eased for US officials to discuss with Russian representatives in the coming days.

US In Talks With Ukraine Over Peace Deal

As per a report by India Today,Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff confirmed that discussions with Ukraine for a peace agreement framework are underway. It has also been reported that a meeting is planned next week with the Ukrainians in Saudi Arabia.

"We're now in discussions to coordinate a meeting with the Ukrainians," Witkoff was quoted as saying by Reuters at the White House.

The development comes within days after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's United States visit ended on an unexpected note after his meeting with Trump led to a verbal spat in front of world media and instead of being a potential step for ending the ongoing war with Russia, the meeting seems to push US security backing farther away in future.

The heated exchange saw a frustrated Zelenskyy lectured by Trump and Vice President JD Vance over what they saw as his lack of gratitude for previous US supportnnnn1998, while the officials in Moscow saw it as a final breakdown in relations between Washington and the Ukrainian leader.
